Trips (Part 2)

So, with those people from Hungary, and my friend from class, we used Erasmus once again to go on a day trip to Girona, Besalu, and the Dali museum. In Girona, we got to see a bunch of places where Game of Thrones was filmed. Then, the Dali museum was beautiful-the building was a piece of art in itself. Finally, I wish I got to spend more time in Besalu, an old Medieval town, because the shops were filled with amazing trinkets, and the little town itself was incredible to walk around; it felt like a movie!

Then, for the weekend of March 10, my roommates and I all went to Brussels and Bruges, Belgium. We hit some of the most popular tourist destinations here, and I even went to the Groeningemuseum, which housed Flemish paintings, included work from Jan Van Eyck-one of my favorites. Even though  my roommates were not interested in going to the museum, I am glad I went by myself, because it was something that I really wanted to do.

My boyfriend came to visit and we went all around Barcelona, eating lots of churros and tapas, and going to all of the best viewpoints of the city. The new things I did were: Bunkers of Carmel, the cable car to Montjuic, the Citadel Park, Tibidabo, and I went to the beach for the first time since being here!  Having Nick here was a refreshing taste of home, and it was great to be able to show him the new experiences I've been having, especially since this was his first time leaving the United States.

For spring break, I went to Florence and Rome alone to study some of the most important artists in all of history. I was not disappointed. In Florence, I went to the Galleria Della'Accademia, where I saw Michelangelo's David, and I went to the Uffizi Gallery, where I saw many other famous works, such as Boticelli's Birth of Venus, and Gentileschi's Judith Slaying Holofernes. I also got to see Brunelleschi's Dome (known as Duomo). Then, in Rome, I went to the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Vatican Museums/Sistine Chapel, Pantheon, and I even got my panini stolen by a seagull.
Being surrounded by so much art history was incredible, the food (pizza and pasta) was my favorite kind-carbs! Plus, I got to eat gelato every day...sometimes twice a day, with the occasional tiramisu or cannoli.
